Find out about DIG’s operation in the field of agriculture

History

Giannakopoulos family originates from a mountainous village in Aigialeia, named Krini (historically known as Arachova). Due to financial difficulties, the eldest members of the family moved to Athens, seeking a better quality of life. In the course of the years, however, returning home seemed like a necessity, as much as a moral obligation.

Back in 2015, Dimitris Giannakopoulos could not help but identify the significant production shortage in modern farming, thus choosing the wider area of the village of Krini as the heart of DIG’s state-of-the-art vineyards.

DIG’s involvement in agriculture is definitely related to its vision and mission, not only as a business entity, but also as a family. Aiming at the provision of raw materials of excellent quality to major industry producers, our ambition is the long-term expansion of our crops from 30 acres to 150 acres. This forecast is projected to be completed until 2024 and passed onto the younger generations of our family.

Our main purpose is the development and promotion of our hometown as an investment-worthy location, while creating new job opportunities, providing motivation for decentralization and supporting youth entrepreneurship in the wider area. We aspire to get the younger generations in touch with nature and completely redefine the relationship between the two.

Mission

In the pass few years, Giannakopoulos family has made significant investments in the market of cultivated and uncultivated land among Krini and its surrounding area, as a stepping stone for the realization of its vision. Our company’s experience in consulting and investment, as much as our ability to cooperate with international organizations and renowned institutes, helps us become optimist enough to believe that our vineyards in Krini will be an archetype for the ever-developing field of agriculture in Greece.

Our motherland is known for its ideal climate, excellent soil, clean water and proper orientation for our family’s vision to come to life, a vision that can be summarized in the following four pillars:

  1. The revitalization of the area, which has known significant depopulation due to centralization
  2. The long-term investment of the Giannakopoulos family vineyards through contractual farming, in a 50-year horizon
  3. The interconnection between our family’s expertise and several local vine producers’ experience
  4. The application of modern agriculture techniques, combined with our family’s cooperation with highly-specialized agricultural institutes, in an effort to implement smart farming and digital agriculture
